Cormia Design Group is grateful to announce a transition in ownership and leadership following the passing of its Owner and Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Cormia, AIA, who died on September 1, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Matthew Cormia was a key member of the design community for over 30 years and was widely respected for visionary leadership, deep integrity, and unwavering commitment to the company’s mission, employees, and clients.
Effective December 1, 2025, longtime employees Ben Hooley and Sam Sampux, AIA, have assumed ownership of the company, taking on the roles of Principals. Both have been integral members of the leadership team for more than 15 years and have played pivotal roles in shaping the organization’s culture, direction, and long-term success.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and leader, we know that Matt wanted the company to continue in the hands of people who understand and honor the values on which it was built,” said Sam Sampoux. “It was a privilege to work alongside Matt over the last 20 years of my career. We are committed to carrying forward his legacy with the same dedication he modeled every day.”
Ben Hooley added, “I am honored to carry on Matt’s legacy at Cormia Design Group. From the vision the leadership team has defined and the confident humility and perseverance the staff has shown, to the lasting relationships we’ve fostered with our clients, contractors, and consultants, I am excited about what the future brings. We look forward to creating many more collaborative solutions and enjoyable experiences.”
The company will continue operations without interruption, with the leadership team emphasizing that honoring the late CEO’s vision remains central to every decision moving forward.
